One Year Ago

At this time last year you would be anxiously awaiting The Michigan Daily’s Sports Monday to read all about how Chad Henne, Mike Hart, Jake Long and Mario Manningham led Michigan to victory. Well, technically, tomorrow’s edition from last year featured Oregon’s Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart running through, around and over the Wolverines. But you get the picture.
Since you won’t be seeing those names in tomorrow’s paper, let’s check in on last year’s big names as well as some other key players from the 2007-08 season and see what their first weekend in the NFL was like.
Henne (Miami): Did not play. Listed as third string.
Hart (Indianapolis): Game in progress. Listed as third string.
Long (Miami): Started at left tackle.
Manningham (Giants): Did not play.
Adrian Arrington (Saints): On the injured reserve list for the 2008 season.
Shawn Crable (Patriots): Did not play.
Long was the only player from last year’s squad to make an impact during Week 1. Odds are Henne will get a shot at the job this year considering starting quarterback Chad Pennington is just waiting to be injured again, and backup John Beck is just in his second year. The rest of last year’s players will have a tough time making significant impacts for their respective teams, but we’re just one week in, so who knows.
