Michigan sophomores Aaron Palushaj and Matt Rust were both named to this year’s team USA World Junior team. The two forwards will head for Ottawa, Canada to play in the tournament over winter break. Players born in 1989 or later are chosen to represent their country in the tournament.
Rust previously played for Team USA in his career before his time at Michigan. He played for the US National Development Team. However, Rust has had a disappointing season thus far, notching just two goals and five assists this season.
Palushaj has never played for the stars and stripes until this tournament. However, Palushaj has had a break out season as a Wolverine with seven goals and 14 assists this season.
Since both players will be in Ottawa practicing for Team USA when Michigan plays in the GLI, neither will be able to play in the tournament from December 27-28. Michigan will play Michigan Tech in the first round of the GLI, followed by the winner of Michigan State and North Dakota.
