Today in Michigan sports history

The Michigan basketball team trailed Indiana by double digits at the half, clawed its way back into the game and ultimately won late.
Last night? No — January 8, 1974.
Indiana’s season looked a little more promising then, as Bobby Knight’s defending Big Ten champions traveled to Crisler Arena to take on All-American forward Campy Russell and the Wolverines.
The Hoosiers led 41-26 at halftime, but Michigan began the second half with a 6-0 run. With the game hanging in the balance, Lionell Worrell hit a bank shot and Joe Johnson made two free throws to gave Michigan a 73-71 upset.
If that game 35 years ago is any indication, Michigan may be in for a special season. The 1973-74 Wolverines went 22-5, won the Big Ten title and started run of four straight NCAA Tournament appearances under coach Johnny Orr.
